Argentina Modernizes: ENACOM's New Homologation Framework July 2026

Argentina has overhauled how telecom and wireless equipment gets approved — for the first time in more than four decades. On February 26, 2026, the national regulator ENACOM published Resolution 57/2026, replacing a homologation regime that had been in place since 1980.

The biggest structural change is who does the evaluating. Rather than assessing products directly, ENACOM is shifting to oversight of accredited third-party Certification Agencies, which will issue the Certificates of Conformity needed to register equipment in the RAMATEL system and reach the market. Alongside that, the process moves to a fully digital workflow.

Several changes are genuinely manufacturer-friendly. New approvals will no longer expire — instead of periodic renewals, ENACOM introduces ongoing market surveillance, carried out every two years for Class A devices and not required for Class B. Manufacturers can also register product "families" that share the same brand, manufacturer, technology, and radio characteristics, testing only the most representative model rather than each variant. And ENACOM continues to accept foreign test reports, such as FCC and CE, provided they meet Argentine technical parameters.

There's also a new e-commerce rule: the RAMATEL registration number must be displayed in online product listings, by both direct sellers and marketplace platforms, to strengthen traceability. What hasn't changed is that homologation remains mandatory to commercialize a product, RAMATEL marking is still required, and foreign manufacturers still need a local representative or importer registered in the system.

Timing is the key planning point. The new framework takes effect September 1, 2026; until then the current process remains fully valid. Certificates already in force receive a three-year extension, remaining valid until February 26, 2029, after which products will need to be recertified under the new rules.

CSIA helps manufacturers stay ahead of changes like this in more than 150 countries, including local representative service where it's required. To plan your Argentina certification timeline around the new framework, contact CSIA at 503-489-8006 or quotes@csiassoc.com for a free quote.
