Regulatory Approval
Type Approval in South Korea
KC RRA certification in South Korea refers to the certification process managed by the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) and the Radio Research Agency (RRA).
This certification is required for telecommunications equipment and devices to ensure they comply with national technical standards and safety regulations.
The KC (Korea Certification) mark indicates that a product has been tested and meets the specific requirements set by the KCC and RRA, covering aspects like electromagnetic compatibility, safety, and performance. This certification is crucial for manufacturers and importers looking to sell telecommunications products in South Korea, as it helps ensure product reliability and consumer safety.

While some CE Mark test reports may be used to supplement the testing in most cases testing in South Korea or testing at an authorized lab to South Korea standards is required.

Usually only 1 sample is required for in country testing, including all cables, adapters, software, etc. to put the equipment into test modes although manufacturers typically send at least two samples in case there are issues with one of them.

The user guide in Korean required. CSIA can offer translation services if needed.

Local representative required. CSIA can provide this service if the manufacturer does not have one in South Korea.

Lead time 4-6 week from the time all documents and samples have been collected and testing has been completed..

Certificate is valid indefinitely.
Importing field test samples without a type approval certificate from South Korea MSIP is allowed for limited demonstration and test purposes only. If the manufacturer can offer the documents and proof properly, they can import the product without approval. The documents would mean documenting that the product is being imported for field testing purposes.
Non telecom products do require approval for import into South Korea. Typically this would be safety and EMC testing and approval. As with the type approval certificate issued for Telecom products in
Korea a local representative would be required.

Common 5 GHz Wi-Fi supports frequency bands such as 5.150–5.250 GHz, 5.250–5.350 GHz, 5.470–5.725 GHz, and 5.725–5.850 GHz

New designated products with scope, energy efficiency standards and test methods: steam closet, bidet
Revision of energy efficiency standards: rice cooker, electric range, electric fan heater.

The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) has issued new standard KC62368‑1:2021 on Audio/video, information and communication technology equipment – Part 1: Safety requirements. Safety standards KC60065, K60950-1, and K60950-22 will be available for use along with KC62368-1:2021 until December 31, 2022, after which point the previous standards will be abolished and KC62368-1:2021 will be the only standard accepted.

Notable changes: explicit list of products requiring EMC approval instead of „similar devices“
IT equipment embedded in vehicles do not require a separate EMC approval
RF modules in approved host can be exchanged more easily
QR-Code Labeling becomes possible: Instead of standard label or e-label, a QR-code can now be used.
