The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) approval is a regulatory process that ensures devices, such as mobile phones, are authorized for use within Pakistan. The PTA is responsible for overseeing and managing telecommunications in Pakistan, and it has a system in place to track and regulate the import and usage of electronic devices that connect to telecommunication networks.

When a phone or device is imported into Pakistan, it needs to be registered with the PTA to ensure it works properly on local networks. If a device is not registered or approved by the PTA, it may be blocked from accessing cellular networks in Pakistan. This system helps combat smuggling, unregistered devices, and ensures that users only have access to devices that meet certain standards.

PTA approval is typically obtained by registering the device via a process known as DIRBS (Device Identification Registration and Blocking System). This system checks the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number of the device to confirm whether it’s cleared for use in the country.

• ​Type approval in Pakistan requires acceptable CE reports.

• 1 sample for functional testing. In most cases the sample is not returned.

• Any device with GPS used to track the device the local operator or representative must obtain a data tracking license. CSIA cannot provide this service.

• Lead time is approximately 7-8 weeks from the time all documents and samples have been collected.

• Certificate is valid indefinitely.
