Type Approval in Namibia
The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) approval refers to the authorization or certification granted by CRAN, which is the regulatory body overseeing Namibia’s communications and broadcasting sectors. This approval is typically required for various types of operations within the communications industry.

Type approval in Namibia requires acceptable CE test reports.

Local representative may be required. If the manufacture does not have one, CSIA can offer this service.

Lead time for this service is approximately 6-8 weeks from the time all documents have been collected.

Certificate is valid for 3 years except products from Schedule 1 are valid indefinitely.
Namibia CRAN label requirements:
There are no specific label requirements, however it is suggested that you follow the CE Mark label guidelines.
Frequencies allowed in Namibia
900 MHz is allowed in Namibia, but it is fully assigned to Telecom Namibia Limited and Mobile Telecommunications Limited for mobile services.

Regulatory Updates For Namibia
January 2024
The Regulator has issued a statement that, on the basis of the new regulations in force since 21 August 2023, all telecommunications equipment exempted from type approval must be entered in the type approval exemption register.
This register will be published periodically on the Regulator's website.
Manufacturers should contact CSIA to obtain an updated exemption letter as Customs officers will no longer accept old letters.
Old exemption letters must be re-requested in accordance with the new Regulation 2023 in order to be registered in a database.

The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) has published an amendment regarding telecommunications equipment requiring type approval and a notice of intention to amend the regulations setting fees for licenses, certificates and examinations.
September 2019
The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) has updated the list of products no longer subject to mandatory Type Approval in Namibia.
May 2018
On May 8, 2018, CRAN released a Statement of interpretation of the definition of “telecommunications equipment” in the Government Gazette. Telecommunication equipment has been defined as: “communications or networking equipment with an interface to public network or wide area network services and includes but not limited to telecommunications terminal equipment, information technology equipment (including but not limited to a digital set-top box decoder), radio communication equipment powered by means of an internal or external electrical AC/DC energy source and electronic communications network equipment.” The Government Gazette includes “Schedule 1” that shows common product types now exempted from type approval in Namibia.
