Type Approval in Colombia

In Colombia, CRC approval refers to the authorization granted by the Comisión de Regulación de Comunicaciones (CRC), or the Communications Regulatory Commission. The CRC is the government agency responsible for overseeing and regulating telecommunications, broadcasting, and postal services in Colombia. The approval or licensing process by the CRC ensures that companies and service providers comply with the regulatory framework established for these sectors.

SRDs at this time, homologation approval is not actually mandatory in Colombia, but their requirement is that the product be registered with the Ministry of Communications. Upon submission of the product documentation, and approval by the Ministry, you would receive a letter stating that this particular product is ok for operation in the country. The Colombian agency states that you are required to obtain this Registration Letter prior to importing and selling the product. Without that letter, the manufacturer will be held responsible for any technical or health problems or interference caused by the product.

If device does NOT use cellular frequency labeling is not required although we suggest FCC logo.

If device does use cellular frequency then labeling is mandatory. You must label make, model and frequency used.

E-marking is allowed.

Regulatory Updates For Colombia

May 2024

The Comisión de Regulación de las Comunicaciones (CRC) has published a new version of the technical standards applicable to Mobile Terminal Equipment (MTE) that use in their operation the bands identified in the country for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) to include requirements for the 3500 MHz frequency bands.

December 2023

The Ministerio de Tecnologías de la Información y las Comunicaciones (MinTIC) has established the requirements, conditions, and procedures for participating in the objective selection process through an auction mechanism. This process aims to grant permits for the use of the radio electric spectrum at a national level. The available frequency bands include 700, 1700, 1900, 2500, and 3500 MHz.

November 2023

The Agencia Nacional del Espectro (ANE) updated the National Frequency Band Allocation Table (NFBAT) to allocate previously unused spectrum in the 900 MHz band to support mobile communications.

Also the Ministerio de Tecnologías de la Información y las Comunicaciones (MinTIC) initiated a second round of consultations on the auction process which will end with the granting of permissions for the utilization of the national radio spectrum across the 700 MHz, 1900 MHz, extended AWS, 2500 MHz, and 3500 MHz frequency bands.

The Ministerio de Tecnologías de la Información y las Comunicaciones (MinTIC) has initiated a public consultation on a draft resolution aimed to support the deployment of 5G networks, by outlining requirements and conditions for an upcoming auction process.

January 2023

The Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies and the National Spectrum Agency of Colombia issued Resolution 737 which permits the use of Wi-Fi 6E within the operating frequency band 5925 - 7125 MHz for Wireless Access Systems (WAS) applications.

December 2022

The Agencia Nacional de Espectro (ANE) of Colombia has approved the use of the 6 GHz band for WLAN 6E.

November 2022

In it is official resolution No. 000737 dated 18th November 2022 announced the AGENCIA NACIONAL DEL ESPECTRO (ANE) that the usage of WiFi 6E within the operating frequency band 5925 - 7125 MHz is now allowed in Colombia for WAS (Wireless Access Networks) applications. This frequency band can only be used with a maximum output power of 30 dBm EIRP for access devices and a maximum output power of 24 dBm EIRP for client devices.

In addition and according to the resolution No. 000737 of 2022, the operation of a device under this application is limited to indoor usage only and the access device must be plugged to the electrical grid of the building (battery usage is not allowed).
