Type Approval in Kenya
The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) approval refers to the process of obtaining authorization from the regulatory body responsible for overseeing the communications sector in Kenya. The CA manages the licensing, regulation, and monitoring of various communication services, including broadcasting, telecommunications, postal services, and the use of radio frequencies.

Type approval in Kenya requires acceptable CE test reports.

Local representative required. If the client cannot provide this service, CSIA can provide one.

Lead time is approximately 8-9 weeks from the time all documents have been collected.

Certificate is valid indefinitely.
ECA Label requirements:
While Kenya has no specific label requirements, it is suggested that you use the FCC or CE Mark guidelines.
Frequencies allowed in Kenya
900 MHz is allowed in Kenya and is commonly used by mobile network operators like Safaricom for GSM mobile communication services.

July 2022
The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has issued new guidelines on the Use of Radio-frequency Spectrum by Short-Range Devices (SRDs).
August 2021
The Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) has stopped issuing Provisional Type Approval certificates
and will now only issue final Type Approval certificates.
Previously the applicant received a provisional certificate valid for 06 months before being issued a
permanent certificate.
With the new process the Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) will issue the permanent certificate
upon completing review of the compliance folder and approval of the product.
Existing provisional certificates that have already been issued will follow the old process until all existing provisional certificates have been replaced by the permanent certificates.

Kenya announced it is starting trials for launching 5G in their country. 5G is still new to Africa as Kenya is only the second country in Africa, after South Africa, to launch trials for the 5G technology.
